Veterans Day Parade

& Massing of the Colors

Wednesday, November 11, 11am


Assembly: Main Street between 2nd & 3rd; 3rd Street between Market and River Road; walking groups use sidewalks

Route: Main Street west from 3rd to 6th streets at which point the parade units will disperse

Review Stand/Stage:  north side of Main on the KY Center front plaza area (between 5th and 6th)


NOTE:  PNC Garage customers to use 4th and 5th street exits.  Entry from 5th Street at Main (garage access/exit only)


Parade Organizers:

Mayor’s Special Events Office in partnership with group led by:


Dispersal: Main Street between 6th & 7th ; 6th north/south of Main

Notes:  vintage military vehicles will park, nose-in, on both sides of Main after passing the review stand, as well as Main after 6th Street to approximately mid-block;

Special Unit vehicles will park on both 5th & 6th streets between Main and Market

    • 5th Street two way between Main & Market to allow for ingress/egress from PNC garage
    • 6th Street open to normal traffic

4:30 to 9:00 A.M.              On site media


7:30 A.M.                             Metro Parks/Dismas on-site for set up


9:00 A.M.                             Assembly area opens

North and south curb lanes of Main from 4th – 6th closed for set up

Set up for informational booths on Main Street – Treva will direct before placement


9:30 A.M.                             Unit check in opens on Main St bet 2nd & 3rd/Yum Plaza area

Main Street, west of 4th Street and east of 6th Street closes


10:30 A.M.                          Assembly area closes; all units in place

All information booth vendors set and open


10:45 A.M.                          All units in place for start; includes all dignitaries


11:00 A.M.ish                     Parade steps off at 3rd & Main

Confetti drops with arrival of first unit – drop over each unit/hold on gaps – supported by two Electrical Maintenance bucket trucks


11:11 A.M.                          First parade unit arrives at Review Stand/Stage at the KY Center


12:00 N (appx.)                 Last parade unit passes Review Stand in front of the KY Center

Massing of the Colors and Blessing of the Colors starts


12:30 P.M. (appx.)           21 Gun Salute and Taps; review stand area – KY Center


12:45 P.M. (appx.)           Ceremony ends; Color Guards depart

Vets Reception, sponsored by Humana, opens in KY Center lobby


Main Street will remain closed until 2pm from 4th – 6th streets to allow for clean-up.


Additional Parade Points –

  • Corridor of Flags – 1500+ JCPS elementary and middle school students/staff will hold small American flags along the route (33 busses will drop off students @2nd and Main and park in the Omni lot @2nd and Liberty; pick up after parade from in front of American Life Building, Main between 4th & 5th)
  • Restored Military Vehicles – will stage on Main after passing review stand area, nose in, both sides of streets in curb lane; 6th Street between Main and Market used for overflow.  Volunteers will direct.
  • see above – both 5th & 6th streets between Main & Market available for Special Unit vehicle parking)
  • Info/Sponsor booths  will be located in the curb lanes of Main between 4th & 5th, both sides of street
  • Massing of the Colors Ceremony will take place at the Review Stand on the KY Center steps
  • Portalets on Montpellier, Parade bleachers across from Review Stand and Assembly

  • Main to Market, both sides (remove after 1pm)

5th Street

  • Main to Market, both sides (remove after 1pm)

6th Street meters:

  • BOTH sides between Main and Market (remove after 1pm)

JCPS – 33 busses to park in Omni lot, 2nd & Liberty
